D.S. & Durga
Tribal pyres burning in the forests, with smoke from pine, holly, cypress, laurel, and cedar rising upwards to the gods. D.S. & Durga looked to the funerary rituals of the early Mississippian Death Cult, the loosely connected network of tribes in America's regions around the 1200 AD, as the inspirations for the haunting yet comfortingly earthy Mississippi Medicine.
Mississippi Medicine opens with herbal, woody top notes of freshly gathered juniper branches, twigs, lichen clad bark, and sweet grassy violet damp, cool, and dense with a stunning realism. Birch tar emerges like smoke mingling up through the wood and herbs of the pyre before it is consumed in flames. As the birch smoke floats above the skin in wafts of muted, spectral, gray in the scent's unfolding, the base of dry cedar and frankincense grows stronger.
And in the final dry down all that remains is that incense and the woody embers, like the ash that was left after the pyres died down, after the smoke had reached the gods above and only the cinders remain to be covered and buried back into the soil.

I don't know if it's my skin chemistry or what, but this smells absolutely awful to me. On my skin, it smells like you mixed hospital disinfectant with kerosene or fuel oil.
Smells chemically and bitter.
Overwhelming burnt tire notes make this an unfathomable release. I don’t know how this made it out of the workshopping stage.
It's gross. Very strong and heavy. I can't describe and honestly it's so awful I can't stand to spray again so I could.
Very complex notes to this fragrance. Little woody. Little aromatic bitters. I'm not sure I like it or not. My wife is unsure if she likes it. Mind you she didn't hate it but compared to other fragrances over the last couple years that's not a glowing endorsement.
I don’t think I’m allowed to use the words I want to use to describe how awful this fragrance smells. If your goal is to smell like a house fire, have at it!
Very heavy black pepper notes initially. Fades into a dark musky scent that's perfect for the winter. One of my favorites!
I tried this fragrance because I tend to be very adventurous and love smoky scents. This is a very unique scent with sharp resinous top notes drying down into leather and smoke. It definitely won’t be everyone’s type of fragrance, especially if you aren’t drawn to experimenting with unusual combinations. I wear a lot of indie perfumes as well, so I enjoyed wearing this, and felt a very outdoors vibe.
top notes is rough but fades quickly into something extraordinary
Incredibly layered, rich smoky scent. Love the crisp green and woods just under the surface. Is great to layer with a sweeter cologne like BR540.
It’s a smoky, leathery, very sophisticated scent. At first I was a bit uncertain about the scent, but it didn’t take long for me to appreciate it. It’s probably not a scent that everyone will like, but I find it intriguing and unusual.
Honestly, this might be the worse smelling cologne that I have smelt since I sniffed a bottle of Brut at a grocery store for fun a couple years ago. Not a fan at all!!
Great for a 94 year old retired mechanic. Smells like transmission fluid...but it does last all day.
Very intense smoky scent. Not usually what go for, but it's very unique and I enjoy wearing for.
