I got the sample in, sprayed it, and thought "huh, kinda smells like a gerbil cage." Came back the next day and smelled the paper and thought what a wonderful vetiver scent. I've worn it consistently since then. It's fantastic. Not too sweet, not too earthy. Opens like a gerbil cage, with that cedar chip smell, then comes some orange or grapefruit citrus freshness, followed right behind by that wonderful vetiver, balancing on top of the metallic notes of flint or whatever earthy notes this uses. Great balance and I love it for any occasion. I'll be getting a full size bottle of this one.
It’s a great scent for the summer. I like the orange smell.
It initially smells of grapefruit and fruity orange which is kind of off-putting. But, 5 minutes into the spray, the smell grows on you and then it smells great. Good buy !!
This was a tough one for me. I selected this fragrance because it was highly favored among various forums and YT channels so I figured I'd take a chance. Upon the first spray I gagged, the slight fruity explosion at the start of the spray caught me off guard. It's comparable to a grapefruit. I couldn't adjust to it in that moment. I asked my wife for her opinion and she appeared to enjoy the scent. I decided to push through and give it a few more trys. 8 days...it took 8 days before I realize this has grown on me. I wouldn't use it as a daily but I could see myself wearing this a few times in the Spring.
I like this one for men. It’s fresh and bright.
While it starts off pretty basic. 5 minutes in the fragrance turns into something magnificent. It feels like your walking through an orangegrove on a cool misty spring day. Have to say that this is one of my favorite fresh scents I have smelled. Sophisticated and much more old school cool smell.
My favorite cologne of all time. Rich and Woody and expensive. I just wish it lasted longer on my skin
Love it! It’s old school Polo with earthy undertones. Definitely a top pick on my list.
I DO understand the HATE that tdh gets. At first this does have an earthy, moldy grapefuit, and as my says "smells like bugspray". So if you smell it in a dept store, might be a "hard pass". 5 minutes in it changes to a much fresher, citrus / earthly cologne that my wife said "i like it. Smells classy, manly." 1 of my most addictive smells.
This is my favorite cologne…and it lasts all day.
Just an incredible fragrance. Top ten all time. Undefeated. Meant for an older gentleman. Dry. Citrus, but the peel not the juice. So good, had to buy a large bottle.
Very strong citrus, def for spring, real earhty, wish it had more spice to it.
Unfortunately too earthy for me wasn’t a fan of it.
Clean
Love the smell. This fragrance got me into colognes
Called a masterpiece for a reason. This fragrance is fantastic. It's a spicy woodsy fragrance that could easily become a signature scent. I'm personally a huge fan. Lasts all day
Great projection. Definitely a different scent. A little more perfume than masculine for my liking.
Smells outdated and for older men. I did not enjoy this scent one bit.
Not a bad smell as long as you like citrus. It overpowers the rest of the fragrance notes.
Fragrance is as I remembered strong , and long lasting
I’ve heard a lot of people compare this fragrance to the smell of moldy oranges, which is absolutely true. And I absolutely LOVE how this smells! Moldy oranges with a spiciness from black pepper and woody earthiness from cedar and vetiver. Just about every designer fragrance smells similar to an already existing fragrance. The designer fragrance industry is caught up in following trends. But Terre d’Hermes is unlike anything else I have smelled. This is not the type of fragrance that you wear for any specific occasion or pair with a particular outfit. You wear this fragrance because you appreciate good perfumery.
Did not care for it. Too earthy.
Reminds me of the barbershop. I notice a grapefruit opening for about 10-15 min. Then black pepper is truly the heart of it the fragrance and you get a smoky note from the flint. Dry down 4-6 hours later has a nice smoke vetiver and woodiness from cedar. Great performance and sillage. I also think this works well in all seasons. Overall, this would make a great signature daytime fragrance for bearded men or guys who like the clean smells from the barbershop. Personally, not my favorite.
This has become one of my favorite fragrances. It’s warm and citrusy at the same time. It’s very different from anything else in my collection.
I love this scent, but the projection is the worst of any cologne I've tried. I prefer more intimate scents, but after about 2 minutes this is the most intimate skin scent I have ever tried. I literally have to stick my nose onto the exact spot I sprayed to smell it. If the sillage was better, this would be 5 stars. Even with almost 10 sprays this just doesn't last very long before becoming almost worthless even as a skin scent.
I thought it was a bit greener. Really like the smell. Reminds me of a Green Irish Tweed, but not as great. Not strong at all. I did 5 sprays and it was only noticeable to me by the time I got to work.
It's okay. A little too sweet smelling. Not strong at all. It takes a lot to have a lingering smell.
Great smell !!!
Yuck! It smells so bad straight out of the bottle, I didn’t even want my husband to try it! Totally smells like a stinky old grandpa. I’m not sure what everyone else is smelling but I couldn’t send it back fast enough.
Not for me..has that "90s aftershave" profile, but just a touch. I think fans of classic men's fragrances will enjoy this new spin on an old favorite.
To strong horrible smell and gave my girlfriend and me a instant headache From one spray sent back hated this cologne
Clean and classic. A refined mans cologne.
Good, reminds me of a pine tree.
Very nice classic scent.
Light, bright, and dry. A really nice scent for when even the most masculine feminines and unisex scents still feel too feminine
Complex fragrance notes give it some time it gets to smelling better
Its very basic. It smells like what you would imagine any premium brand of cologne to smell like not too sweet not too pungent sits close to body you constantly smell it. it has the feeling of getting out of a barber chair.
Smells good
Ladies love it on me!!!
Several positive reviews but this did not respond well of my skin. Very much a burnt chemical vibe. The thing that really gets me, is I kept going back and smelling the atomizer on this one. Something about this scent is extremely inviting, but sadly it doesn't work well for me.
This may not be for everyone because of the strength of the cedar but this is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I wound up catching my wife taking a deep whiff of one of my shirts while doing laundry.
Love this scent, I get a lot of wood/cherry in the open, and as it dries down the earthiness comes out. I would say this is a safe fragrance to wear most, if not all, places and for all occasions, dressed up or down. Stays pretty close to the skin, and I get about 6 hours with 7-8 sprays. I would recommend.
A complete favorite of mine.
Definitely a man’s fragrance.
I would really probably give this a 4.5 and that’s only because I think it smells like other colognes, similar notes to bad boy but much stronger and more masculine which is preferable to me. So basically if you want a stronger and more masculine bad boy go for this! Smells great, lasts all day.
Love the smell. It has a woodsy smell to it. The scent lasts on my clothes for a long time but on my skin seems to dissipate after a couple of hours. I think this would be good for a date or meeting, something shor term. Not an all day wearer.
I almost wonder if the fragrance was spoiled given the overwhelmingly positive reviews on this site and elsewhere. This EDT had a strong, off putting chemical smell, almost like wood polish or varnish. Perhaps it just doesn't work with my chemistry. This one is why I appreciate the exchange policy.
This is more of a professional/business scent. Reminds me of Creed Invictus
Smells good
This is something lasts for good time. It’s gentle woody smell and has taken me away from my old favorite Azzaro. Definitely going to make the purchase
Love it. Classic spicy scent
You need to get this!
Smells like the Home Depot lumber yard. Maybe a bit more aggressive but that’s the general idea I get.
Great scent, more of a classic scent vs an Invictus party scent.
I love this scent. I would definitely recommend others to try it . I had a feeling I would like it before ever smelling it and I was happily impressed
I kinda like it has upon first scent like pepper but I now compare this one to Polo not my favorite but it's kinda nice
Very long lasting fragrance, can still smell it on my clothes the next day.
Hermes's best scent in my opinion.
A smoky woodsy scent that still has some lightness to it. I wear this as a woman and love how it smells!!
Nice citrus scent. Not my fave but i don't dislike it either.
Sophisticated scent that is reminiscent of Hermes Rocabar.
Top notes smell like many other fragrances., but I like it.
Not my favorite yet, but very nice. I think I just need more time with it
Smells like wet Micheal’s craft store. But make it slightly fancy
Nice everyday scent for mature men. Great for office or for day and evening events. Lasting scent although not overbearing. Very stylish and sexy.
Definitely a citrusy wood scent, more mature and will definitely get compliments ??
I thought I was receiving parfum
It’s ok .. not bad nor really good..
Honestly just smells like wet soil to me ??
Bitter orange very good smelling, more formal and mature.
Description is pretty spot on. It’s a classic citrus. Perfect for day and office use. It’s not overbearing.
Very manly scent. Sort of like leather but in a more fresh way. Lasts a long time. One of my faves and wife approved.
Nice scent. Lasted long on me.
One of my favorites. Citrus and spice smells really good
The written descriptions of this sounded appealing, so I tried it out. To me, the "earthy" notes came across more "dusty," and the impression I got from it was of antiques and powdered wigs. It's not for me.
didnt like
This is one of my favorites! It smells sexy and the scent lasts all day.
Smells nice and fresh, a little too green for my taste. Still a good scent tho
Spicy and sexy,I love it!
Very clean scent. I would definately order again.
Smells really mature, and not what I was expecting.
Way to old man I Fr just gave it to my older coworker
It smells like that all those $1 colognes wtf 5stars my ass
Head turner! Sexy! Clean! Suit and tie fragrance!????
Spicy and Woody! I let my friend try it out. He liked it too!
For sure my favorite. Spicy refined vibes. Could be considered old man cologne by some.
Good, not amazing. Non-offensive, fresh. Just not particularly memorable. Doesn't seem to last long
A very mature cologne. I think a good daily cologne for guys over 40.
Smelled okay but smells a little to “old “ for me.
Good smell . Has that Ralph Lauren Polo smell . Good choice ??
Wow, definitely lives up to its namesake. Top notes are overpoweringly 'earthy'. Like fresh red soil after a good rain. The mid notes thankfully come through and a peppery musk takes center stage but it still posses quite a bit of that "earthy" scent. It's by no means a 'safe scent', it's certainly distinctive but as such is not the scent for me. I returned it but am grateful for the experience.
Classy, musky all while being versatile. It opens with a blast of orange and strong Vetiver. The dry down is citrusy and musky with a hint of Vetiver. If you like Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Bvlgari Aqva Amara you will love this one it’s right in the middle of those.
Not very complex, no longevity 2 to 4 hrs on skin and collar. No silage asked my co worker if she could smell it 2 hrs after applying 3 sprays and she could bite my neck without smelling it. Dry down has ok scent but definitely not special
The smell was too strong and overwhelming for my family's taste. Its not the right scent for my husband or my son. Probably an acquired taste.
This has now become my favorite cologne to use. It is a more mature, professional smell that is great for work and church. The only down side is that it doesn't seem to last as long as I would hope since I don't bring cologne with me to work. Whenever I get a whiff of myself when wearing this I always get a false raise in confidence lol
Cologne smells a little "old" for me. Reminds me of a musk
I’m no smell scientist, but I’d say this is cologne. Better yet, I’d say it’s at least Hollister grade cologne. But it’s got that Jeremy Renner quality where it’s definitely a quality cologne but I couldn’t pick it out of a lineup of other, equally talented colognes
Excellent strong and not overbearing
This is definitely not for you get people. It smells a lot like some type of old Avon. Not a big fan of it at all.
The worst fragrance of my life! I would never recommend it to anyone! Sentbird is a piece of shit!
The magic is in the dry down, A citrus woody aromatic that captivates you everytime you inhale. Very mature scent not for the younger crowd.
Really nice
Hello cologne lovers I am pleased to say this fragrance is a hitter, if you like compliments this one will give you that. It starts off very strong and STAYS. I really like how when it settles the smell is awesome I recommend it. It will be bought and put into my rotation thanks scentbox
I've only used it a few times so far but I love love this fragrance.
This scent is very good for work in my opinion, I love the orange and vetiver that is used comes off masculine and classy almost a dirty version of grey vetiver by Tom ford but I have enjoyed it so far.
I find it absolutely enthralling! The drydown is very complex and, alternates between the citrus and, woodsy notes. If there was a drawback, the vetiver is quite intense. It is quite a bit much for some. All in all, a good one, it will definitely have people that love it and, people that hate it though...
I love it smells similar to one of Cartier popular cologne however this one is well balanced and toned down that doesn't give off that somewhat awful opening like Cartier
I love this fragrance. This is my favorite thus far. Smells very "mature". This is a great classic pick.
The citrus element in this fragrance makes it extremely fresh, easy to wear and not overpowering! My work colleagues comment whenever I wear it...Highly recommended!
I have received a lot of positive feedback on this fragrance. It really lasts a long time. ..
This is a great scent. A unique smelling fragrance that's fit for any occasion. Lasts a long time and makes me feel confident. Excellent for the work place and draws compliments.
Very good flavor perfume!!!
Very special fragrance, but probably not for all day use.
this smelsl like a juniper plant with a dry down of a juniper plant ... followed by more....did not get it
ITS UNIQUE AND IT SMELLS GOOD UNLIKE MOST CITRUS COLOGNES WHICH SMELL ALIKE
Rocobar is of Hermes, Maybe you meant Rocobar of hermes . Or possibly Santos of Cartier.
I don't like this fragrance; I personally find it too "green". The top notes are very astringent to me, and thus relatively unpleasant (albeit not quite repulsing). As another gentleman commented before me, this scent is very, very similar to Burberry Brit, and that fact alone qualifies as a demerit (in my opinion), especially when taking into account Burberry's Brit is more tolerable. Also, in this fragrance I find a note at the top that's present in 212 men by Carolina Herrera which gives the cologne a "modern" smell.
The quality and complexity of this fragrance is unbelievable. Simply the best!
i really like this, i go crazy when i smell this.
On a trip from Miami to Dallas a lady who was sitting next to me asked me what was the name of the fragrance i'm wearing. Before I could tell her,her head was already on my shoulder all the journey to Dallas. What more can i say?
Probably my all time favorite (so far). I continually get comments, and it's a great hit with the ladies.
this perfume blows me away when ever i apply it.its a beast in a bottle so don't be too trigger happy with it.top notes are peppery and base notes are earthy and green.nothing smells like it.the best perfume of the year.its a definite classic.
TdH is required smelling for people who collect fragrances. Fizzy grapefruit topnote melds into a light, earthy heart and base. Minimalist without being boring. If you've never tried this, you must.
This scent has the wow factor for me. It's very very sexy in an understated way. I had a friend try some and I was magnestized!! It's certainly captivating. Made me look at him in a whole new light *swoons*. I will never tire of this scent. Not only is it sexy, but it's sophisticated too.
AFTER A LONG TIME FOUND SOMETHING GREAT AND A BLAST TO GO FOR, RICH SOPHIASTICATED AND SENSUEL.
great cold and mild weather perfume. Smells exactly like Cartier's Declaration right off the bat. However, as it dries down it is a little smoother and crisper than Cartier's Decalaration. If you own Decalaration (the original one), you can pass this one and try Rocabar from Cartier, which is an excellent fragrance.
EXCELLENT...IMO IN BETWEEN CREED VETIVER AND CARTIER DECLARATION. VERY SOFT VETIVER. INVITING, WARM, NOT TOO SWEET, NOT TOO WOODY...MORE GRASSY AND FLOWERY...NOT FOR THE EARLY 20s, MORE FOR THE YOUNG MEN AND THE MATURE ONES TOO. WOMEN LOVE IT, GIRLS IN MY OFFICE TOO. MY PARTNER DIDN'T. IF YOU ARE STRAIGHT GO RIGHT AHEAD..GAY? WELL i DUNNO. HEY, i LOVED IT!!!
I tried it out and it does have an earthy smell to, but definitely fashionable. It beats out any rivals from competing designers. Its long lasting and an absolutely captivating scent, in my opinion!
Wonderfully composed fragrance. It's one that needs some time to dry down to appreciate. Elegant.
hmm... no grass here imo just an elegant choice of ingredients which create a top notch scent for all ages. a bit ssexy, a bit sporty and overall wonderful fresh/woody scent that does resemble burberry's brit. that is the only downfall, originality.
A VERY WONDERFUL RETROACTIVE SCENT WITH AN EXTREMELY MODERN TOUCH. I WILL BE GETTING THIS CLASSIC-IN-THE-MAKING IN MY COLLECTION SOON FOR ME AND THE WOMEN TO REJOICE TO ITS SPLENDOR.
Very unique and long lasting scent. Unfortunately for me, I don't enjoy it very much. I agree with the cut grass comment. Clearly I'm in the minority regarding this scent, so if you see it around, don't let me discourage you from sampling some...
My favorite in my collection, number one, #1 numero uno. This is a refined, sosphisticated, high class fragrance. I have received many compliments while wearing it. It has a chic smell. Ingredients are natural and the best quality in the field. At the start it reminds me a little of Declaration of Cartier but this one is better. It's high middle- low- notes developes better. More entriguing and versatile than Declaration. Works well for formal as well as casual wearing.
More than classic... this is a modern/avangarde concept...simply unique, versatile and complex in the notes, you can feel the fruity very natural and the spicy base without be syntethic, the woody-airy/mineral notes make the fragance an organic touch unique in perfumery. Awesome Terre...
This is a classic perfume ,smelt it on a friend late last year and bought one instantly. Its absolutely wonderful and i am sure anyone who knows perfumes would agree with me
WOW! This one is truly different! Very exotic. Pls read my other reviews too.
This stuff is amazing. Hermes might be the best design house of them all. I agree it is somewhat difficult to explain this scent. It is so rich and powerful, but everything from Hermes is. This stuff is so unique. It lasts and it lasts - all day. It seems to create a second skin that smells like heaven on earth. It has somewhat of an orange smell, but then that changes into a deeper darker scent and then back again. Caron and Hermes make the most high quality stuff on Earth. This stuff is quite simply as good as it gets. But what do you expect from a design house that has come to be known as legendary.
Definitely one of the best! I have plenty of colognes and I didn't plan on buying this one, but I tried it at Sephora and could not resist it - bought a 100ml bottle. Wow, this is real stuff, made by people who know how to make expensive, classy fragrances. I mean the scent is so RICH and multi-layered and long-lasting. It starts light and citrusy, then goes to heavier tobacco notes and keeps on through so many transformations during the day, it almost has a life of its own. I mean you can see why it is a bit pricey - it is real deal, not just some cheap imitation with designer label. Love it! Again - rich, classy and highly recommended.
I got a sample at the mall of this and this stuff is incredible. Unfortunatly I cannot explain the scent. It somewhat is has a grassy/outsdoors scent but there is some sweetness and a strong, refined unexplainable smell to it as well. I have to get a bottle of this!
yeah, is a very complex fragance, the more you smell it, more you can love it... the first notes are very strange between sweet and spicy, then youll find a heaven in ur skin.. i hope soon i could buy it...
This fragrance is so luxurious. My mom and my aunt said that this fragrance is absolut fragrance for men. The scent is different with others but the scent characteristic is still Hermes
Jean Claude Ellena delivered again with this masterpiece. I agree that this is simply the best Hermes to date, even beats out Vetiver Tonka. It's definitely THE top release of 2006. It does smell like the different elements of the Earth, it's also a very long lasting frag for warm weather. This has to be my most complimented fragrance of 2006 hands down, it's incredible!
Herme's best men's fragrance hands down. The notes are complex..earthy, fruity, peppery, with a hint of gunpowder on the drydown. Unique and masculine.
